About: Barry Cooper

Hello,
I'm Barry Cooper. I'm a retired special needs and state school, supply Primary teacher and now Volunteer at Grimm & Co.  'Apothecary to the Magical', as a literacy mentor and illustrator.

Working with the children at Grimm's has inspired me to finally get round to writing some of the stories that have been buzzing around inside my head for many years and now that I have some time, I have decided to get some of them down.

I have also included some non-fiction - But not much and it is labeled.

I have worked in all sectors during my working life and have wide ranging interests and knowledge-base. I am expert in telescopes and astronomy and even have a telescope help website.

I enjoy literature, film, music, art and sciences and creative crafts aswell as helping out at Grimm & Co. Which gives me a good base to draw on for all my writing activities.

I also lived in Spain for a few years, and that has leant another angle to look at the world from.

I hope you like my website and enjoy my books.

The things that I am interested in have always provided me with thoughts that I have wondered what to do with.

I have found that writing these thoughts as stories is a great way to explore different concepts and get to the nub of any problem.

If you like my subjects, please get in touch to discuss them further on the CONTACT page.

Agmunder's Ness

A story about the early settlement of the Fylde area.  A viking brings his family to farm the fertile land of the coastal plain in April 781.

Follow the adventures of Agmunder, his wife, Svala and son, Erik as they start a new life.  Agmunder tries to be a good man as he makes friends and enemies.

The story moves through the farming, to building a fortress, battling a pirate at sea and other Viking raiders. The book is a vehicle for exploring the ways our familiar place names, and personal names, have come about in early British history.

The violent scenes have been sympathetically written for the young reader.  This book would be suitable for the 10 - adult age group.
